My own research is devoted to MERRITT lines in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, especially those
that can be traced to colonial times, but I am interested in all variations.
The well-known lines of Thomas Merritt (New York) and Henry Merritt (Massachusetts) are not currently
treated here, but I am interested in corresponding with any MERRITT reesearcher.
The MERRITT surname is a hyper-correction of the root name "Meriet". It is a "habitation" name from
the west country of England. Other related M630 soundex surnames include:
Marryott, Maryott, Marriott, Merriot, Meriot, Merriott, Maryatt, Marryat, Merrat, Merrot,
Merrett, Meriet, Merit, Merrit, Meritt, Merritt, Meryt, and even Merit De Merrat.
